Little Charlie Hotel

Nobody on staff knows why this hotel has its moniker, but I’ll hazard some guesses. Rooms are little—not the smallest I’ve seen in NYC, but out of towners will still be shocked by their compactness. And there’s something in the unpretentious, everyman quality of the nickname that sums up the vibe here. Guestrooms are very clean and feature blond wood furnishings, peacock blue mini fridges, shaggy throw blankets, and padded headboards that look vaguely Scandinavian enough to be of the moment, but could never be considered chic (can’t imagine a chic Charlie either). Prices here are usually lower than you’ll find for digs that are further west (but in return you’ll have a longer walk to the subway and midtown attractions). Tip: Solo travelers can snag twin bedded rooms which can be cheaper than regular rooms with queen sized beds.
