Faena New York

Real estate developer Alan Faena had a dream. No, not to eradicate world hunger. Faena wanted to grow roses on the beach (I kid you not). Eventually he was able to achieve his goal, and as a result, all of his hotels (two in Miami, one in Buenos Aires, and now one in NYC) have a rose theme. Rooms and hallways have pops of deep red, the handpainted murals in the public areas feature the flower, and all guestrooms get a vase of fresh roses daily. These are just the start of the luxe touches here, which include beds that are at once soft as a snowflake while supportive of the back, multiple ways to light your room without ever leaving said bed, smart TVs hidden behind mirrors, and floor-to-ceiling windows with fun views of the High Line and Hudson River from many. The basement spa has an elaborate gym, 3 full sized swimming pools (salt, warm and cold), a hammam, and treatment rooms. There’s also a restaurant and a bar with live music come evening. I just wish the décor here was a bit less florid; it’s impressively daubed with gold leaf, but overall the effect is garish rather than refined.
