As much gallery as hotel, the Crosby Street is eye-candy of the first degree. Designed by co-owner Kit Cosby, every room and every public area features quirky, often funny, and always compelling works of sculpture and painting. This includes the guest rooms, each of which has a different look from the next (mine was all done in black and white, but others are saturated with colors, perhaps taking on the ambience of a garden, or the vibrant color palette of Morocco). Floor-to-ceiling warehouse-style windows light up the rooms, and the deluxe bathrooms feature such niceties as heated towel racks and bidets. None of this comes cheap, but with an on-site movie theater, fabulous location, and very good restaurant, the Crosby Hotel is perfect for a special-occasion stay.
