Hotel 1080
If hotel rates weren’t so insane, I might not be recommending this hotel. It’s right under the elevated J subway line, so for two-thirds of the rooms, bunking here means sleepless nights. But those who are smart enough to grab a room facing the back of the building and away from the trains (those numbered 01, or on the seventh or eighth floors) this could be a fine place to stay. Caring staff keep rooms dust and dirt free, the beds are comfy (a little softer than the norm but not saggy), and there’s even a bit of charm to the digs, thanks to the giant photos of that elevated train, which grace one wall of each guest room. Bedford Stuyvesant is a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood, so there are some nice restaurants and bars within walking distance, and hey, the subway is right there to whisk you to tourist sites quite quickly.
