Rebel

A nightly party is taking place at Rebel, complete with a DJ. So if you’re looking to have a quiet tete a tete, look elsewhere—this may well be one of the loudest restaurants in the city. But if you’re in the mood to be bouncing in your seat to Afrobeats, Kompa, Hip Hop and classic R&B, while dining on food that makes your tongue dance, make a reservation (Rebel is small and fills up with a loyal Haitian clientele). Top dishes include smoked herring egg rolls (really! they’re delish); slow-braised-then-fried spicy pork; and jerk fish with traditional Haitian black mushroom rice. Skip the desserts, which don’t shine here, and don’t be afraid to share. Portions are large.
