Sailor

April Bloomfield! She’s the reason we’re sending you to the wilds of Fort Greene, Brooklyn. A long-time star chef who found her previous restaurants destroyed by a “Me Too” scandal (which involved her male business partners, and not Bloomfield directly—grr), Bloomfield is cooking at the top of her powers here, turning out a menu that’s both quirky and comforting, in a very pleasant, woodsy, lightly-maritime-themed restaurant. It’s hard to order wrong here, but I think you’ll be particularly pleased if you go for the toast with green sauce (which tastes like spring even in the depths of winter); braised pork shoulder that comes in a jus so luscious it’s hard to stop from licking the plate; and the Platonic Ideal of roast chicken (for two) sided by garlic-infused chard and parmesan potatoes. Note: Sailor is quite small so this is a hard reservation to nab, but they do hold aside bar area seating for walk-ins.
