There is a beautiful karst landscape between Paklenica National Park and Nin, but there are some land-mine warning signs, too. Those are alarmingly near weekend homes and all along the way to Zadar, but the people staying there seem pretty blasé about them; you'll see houses and people precariously close to the signs as you drive through. Paklenica is the Velebit's best hiking territory and has many gorges, mountains, and caves to tempt adventurous explorers. Nin is a quaint medieval town with ancient churches and an excellent grill restaurant.
