Frobisher Inn (tel. 867/979-2222; www.frobisherinn.com), atop Iqaluit's Astro Hill -- or the "Frobe," as it's known by regulars -- is in a massive complex that houses a cinema, a small shopping arcade, and the municipal pool, and is easy to see from just about anywhere in town. Guest rooms on the bay side are quite panoramic. There's a very lively bar, the Storehouse (tel. 867/979-1105), as well as a decent restaurant, the Gallery (tel. 867/979-2222 ext. 608), with a mix of French and Northern choices. Double rooms begin at C$250.
The Nova Inn (923 Federal Rd.; tel. 866/497-6933 or 867/979-6684; www.novainniqaluit.ca) is Iqaluit's newest hotel, with one pub, the Kickin' Caribou Lounge; a pretty good restaurant, the Waters' Edge (both at tel. 867/979-4726); and a small fitness center. All rooms are equipped with kitchenettes, including a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and dishes, and competitive pricing, starting at C$195 for a double.
The Faroese innkeeper converted an old nursing station in Apex to the gorgeous Rannva's B&B (tel. 867/979-3184; me@rannva.com), designed with Scandinavian simplicity and style. The rate is C$145 for a double, with a hearty, delicious breakfast and strong coffee included. You will need to depend on taxis to get to and from town.
