A historic city, Olite sits in a rich agricultural belt with a Mediterranean climate of short winters and long hot summers. Cornfields and vineyards, along with large villages, pepper the countryside. Olite is also the center of a winemaking industry carried on by cooperative cellars. These wine merchants hold a local festival each year in mid-September.
