A beautifully designed hotel right in the city center, the Grims Grenka oozes laid-back style in its massive (for Europe) bedrooms, which come in several different themes. The loft suites are truly vast, with mirrored halls and views over the city but the lighting in lower levels can feel a touch sepulchral, and a general drawback is that not everybody takes to the frosted glass walls that give little or no privacy between bathroom and bed. On the plus side, try out the cool Q Lounge Rooftop Bar on the top deck for its views over downtown Oslo, the lobby bar for evil early-evening coktails, or the New Nordic menu at MADU, which features lots of tasty pickled and smoked fish.
