A madly expensive but oh-so-genteel Oslo institution, this iconic landmark chalet-hotel is built in a distinctive and traditional Norwegian 'dragon' style with a wooden tower and balconies in the bucolic surroundings of Holmenkollen. The lavish rooms come in five levels of luxury, from sleek duplex suites with wooden balconies to the newly refurbished and cozy standard rooms with cheery furnishings. All have beautifully kitted out marble bathrooms with showers and baths and many give delicious views across Nordmarka National Park or of the wacky S-shaped Holmenkollen ski jump that is close by. There are several eating choices on-site, from casual snacks in the wood-paneled bar to the finest Norwegian haute cuisine in the plush surroundings of Fem Stuer restaurant. All this luxury sure doesn't come cheap, but if you're in the happy position to be able to splurge, this is the hotel for you.
