Planning a Trip to Monfragüe National Park

It’s not really practical to explore Monfragüe without access to a car. A bus service from Cáceres and Trujillo runs just a couple of times a week and varies throughout the year. The rugged hamlet of Villarreal de San Carlos is the only inhabited settlement within the park and has limited, basic accommodation. The larger village of Torrejón el Rubio, just south of the park, will be a more comfortable base for most visitors. Torrejón is a short drive from Trujillo (30 min. via EX-208) and Cáceres (45 min. via EX-390), making it a feasible day trip. It’s a 2.5-hour drive from Madrid on the A-5.
