For the best little hotel right in the center of town, try the popular Hotel Fönix, at Hunyadi út 2 (tel. 72/311-682). This unique hotel's structure is reminiscent of a building from a children's fairy tale. It sits just off the top of Széchenyi tér across from the mosque. With only 14 rooms and three apartments, this adds to its charm as does the fact that each room has oddly angled walls and partial dormer-type ceilings. Some of the rooms are a bit cramped, but all are clean with refrigerators and TVs and the common facilities are well maintained. The three apartments have full facilities and their own entrance off the street. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. The hotel has Wi-Fi. Double rooms cost between 10,600 Ft to 14,000 Ft, triples are 15,000 Ft to 16,000 Ft, and apartments range from 20,000 Ft to 30,000 Ft. Rates include breakfast, but not tourism tax of 350 Ft per night per person. Call several days ahead to reserve a room. Credit cards are accepted.
