In summer, there is at least one day-trip boat daily from the Elban ports of Portoferraio, Rio Marina, Marina del Campo, and Marciana Marina. Year-round, Toremar, Rio Marina, Banchina dei Voltoni (www.toremar.it; tel. 0565/962073), operates a ferry on Tuesdays only between Piombino and Pianosa, stopping at Rio Marina, Elba, along the way. The trip from Rio Marina to Pianosa takes about 2 hr. each way. Private full-day boat excursions to Pianosa, bundled with walking, mountain bike, snorkeling tours, and so on of the island are also offered by several Elban operators.
