Montichiello, a little walled village 10km (6 miles) east of Pienza, is an enchanting warren of piazzas and stone towers, and adding to the charm are these three rooms and three apartments (rooms and one attic apartment are in a grand old house on a central square, one apartment is in a nearby house, and another is in a medieval tower). All are full of antiques, family heirlooms, and tasteful vintage-modern and contemporary pieces. Guests share a large beamed lounge where a fire burns in the stove on chilly evenings and a breakfast with homemade pastries is served by affable host, Francesco. With a couple of shops and places to eat, the village is a good base for exploring the Val d’Orcia and some of Tuscany’s most enticing towns.
