Because Athens is so accessible by Metro, we don't recommend an overnight stay in Piraeus. However, if it makes sense in your travel plans, try one of these decent, moderately priced choices (usually no more than 100€): The 74-unit Hotel Mistral, 105 Vas. Pavlou, Kastella (www.mistral.gr; tel. 210/411-7150), has a nice roof garden. The 31-unit Ideal Hotel, 142 Notara (www.ideal-hotel.gr; tel. 210/429-4050) is clean and convenient. For something a bit nicer, try 32-unit Hotel Castella, 75 Vas. Pavlou (tel. 210/411-4735), or Piraeus Theoxenia Hotel, 23 Karaoli and Dimitriou (www.theoxeniapalace.gr; tel. 210/411-2550), a five-star hotel with 76 rooms in a pretty neoclassical building. Frugal traveling friends who visit Greece every year always stay at 56-unit Hotel Triton, 8 Tsamadou (tel. 210/4173-4578), which they praise for its quiet location -- and double-glazed windows that cut down what noise there is.
