Prato is on the Florence-Pistoia-Lucca-Viareggio and the Florence-Bologna train lines, with more than 50 trains daily from Florence (trip length: 20-40 min. depending on interim stops). From Pisa, change at Lucca or Florence Rifredi. All trains stop at Prato Centrale, a 10-minute walk southeast from the center, and some at Prato Porta al Serraglio, outside the gate a couple of blocks north of the Duomo (head straight down Via Magnolfi and you're there).

If you're traveling by car, take the A11 from Florence or Pistoia, exit at either Prato Est or Prato Ovest and follow signs. The best place to park is on Piazza Mercatale, where there are a small number of free spaces (indicated by white markings) along the southeastern edge, and payment by the hour in the rest of the lot.
