Hotels in Pylos
The pleasant coast north of Pylos, with wetlands beloved of migrating birds, is changing. The enormous Westin Resort, Costa Navarino (www.starwoodhotels.com), has 445 rooms, a spa, and an 18-hole golf course. The smaller, more exclusive Costa Navarino Resort (www.romanoscostanavarino) has opened the 321-room Romanos Resort (pools, golf, spas) and by the time the resort is finished in 2020 will include 11 hotels, 7 golf courses, a number of spas, and hundreds of holiday villas. Doubles at either start at 400€. The Romanos made it into Odyssey magazine's best hotels issue in 2011, but it is difficult to be optimistic about the effect of so much construction and so many visitors on the nearby wildlife sanctuary at Voidhokilia. You may want to check on the progress of the construction before staying at either the Westin or the Romanos, or our more modest seaside recommendations, whose tranquillity may be affected by the ongoing construction of these large resorts.
