Tragata

To sample the Benito Gómez magic (see Bardal above) on a budget, head to his brightly lit tapas bar on Calle Nueva. Each dish is little more than a couple of bites, but they’re so good you may find yourself trying the whole day’s selection. The classics are here—cold salmorejo soup, homemade croquettes, bocadillo de calamar (spicy squid sandwich)—but everything is prepared and presented in fine dining style. Larger sharing plates go heavy on mountain reared beef, some with an Asian fusion twist. There’s an excellent selection of local and Spanish wines, including good value sherries.
