Lapland Safaris & River Cruises
In the very short summer, white-water rafting, river cruises, fishing in local rivers, and trips to reindeer and husky farms can be arranged, while winter visitors can opt for snowmobiling, skiing, or sled safaris.
There are several tour operators. One of the best is Arctic Safaris, Koskikatu 6 (tel. 016/340-0400; www.arcticsafaris.fi). The largest and best-known agency, offering tours of the vast Lapland area, is Lapland Safaris, Koskikatu 1 (tel. 016/331-1200; www.laplandsafaris.com).
Prices depend on what you want to do or see. A 3-hour summer tour costs around 85€ ($136), while short trips on the river cost 30€ ($48). In winter, the price of the safaris are far more expensive, a snowmobile safari, for example, ranges from 130€ to 200€ ($208-$320). About 2 to 4 hours of husky or reindeer sledding costs from 120€ to 185€ ($192-$296).
