Aptly named—with just nine rooms it really is a micro-hotel—Placentinos is a marvel of design and interior decorating. There are three single rooms and six doubles in this tiny 16th-century building amid the looming blocks of the old university. Most rooms have at least one wall of exposed stone. Comfortable but contemporary furniture may strike a muted palette, but the simple rooms are anything but spartan. Bathrooms in the doubles have whirlpool tubs and some even have a sauna shower. The location is spectacular—steps from the cathedrals.
