Restaurants in Samana
A Dominican whose opinion we respect has developed a ritual that he follows whenever he's in Samaná and off-duty. He approaches any of the town matriarchs and pays her to cook pescado con coco (fish with coconut), which he insists is best prepared in Samaná, and best when accompanied by arroz con gandules (rice with a local berry). We don't recommend this for newcomers who aren't familiar with local customs, but if you see either of these dishes on local menus, be alert to the fact that they represent local delicacies.
