Puerto Ricans love children and are more likely to bring them out to dinner than in many other countries. As a result, most restaurants are used to dealing with children and are most often prepared to handle them. Likewise, large family groups going out to restaurants are very common. The Ciao Mediterranean Café, right on the beach in Isla Verde, is a great place for lunch, especially if you are enjoying the beach. Pizzas, pastas, salads, and sandwiches are offered at reasonable prices. The buffets on offer at the La Vista Restaurant and Ocean Terrace (Marriot Hotel Stellaris Casino; tel. 787/723-7000) are good for a family splurge, with enough variety to meet everyone's taste. The buffets change nightly, and there are breakfast and lunch buffets as well. It's hard to do better than Bebo's Café for a family outing. There's great local food, and basic American fare to satisfy all wishes. There's a full bar and range of fruit frappes, great desserts, and the price is right. In Old San Juan, both El Jibarito and Raíces are family friendly and local, but the Parrot Club has the tastiest kid's menu in town.
