Casa Ybel Resort

A seaside retreat for the likes of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, Casa Ybel Resort maintains a historic charm. The property is s ituated on 23 very well-manicured acres of beachfront, with magnificent views of the Gulf of Mexico. One of the buildings here was Sanibel's first inn, which got a whole lot grander when the owner's daughter married a resort guest and he built them a fancy estate on the inn's property. Today that building, the Thistle Lodge, is the resort's highly regarded surf and turf restaurant. The all-condo resort features one- and two-bedroom accommodations housed in four-story buildings. All rooms have screened porches, full kitchens, and living rooms. As relaxing as it all is, there's free Wi-Fi all over the property, including on the beach, for those who just can't disconnect. But getting away is easy to do here, with an Olympic-sized beachfront pool, children's pool, Casa Kid's Club, and a "Recreation Concierge," whose sole job is to make sure you're having fun. When it comes to Casa Ybel Resort, that's a pretty easy, cushy gig. The staff takes their jobs seriously, though, and they are an impressive bunch. One negative, and there really aren't many here, is that those in need of a crib have to pay $7 a day. With the prices of this resort, a crib should be comped.
