Parador de Santillana Gil Blas/Parador de Santillana del Mar
If you want to stay in a 400-year-–old noble house with all the attendant noble decor (including suits of armor), then book the Gil Blas. If you just want to stay in Santillana in comfort, choose the Parador Santillana del Mar, which was created for overflow from the historic building but looks like it has been on the same square for centuries. It is closed for renovations as we went to press, so check to see if it has reopened. Rooms in the Parador Gil Blas are exceptionally large, but plumbing, heating, and wiring systems are not as updated as the décor.
