Especially for Kids in Seville

Unlike some of Spain’s historic cities, Sevilla has plenty of things to keep children interested and entertained, with free admission to many key sites, plus a number of parks and boat rides. The Game of Thrones gardens at the Alcázar, the swooping walkways of Las Setas, and the A-to-Z murals of Plaza de España are all obvious destinations. If they need to burn off some energy, try the 35 ramps of the Giralda but note that children must be accompanied to the top.

Isla de Cartuja, the rather desolate site of the 1992 World Expo, has several attractions that should appeal to children. The Isla Mágica (“Magic Island”) amusement park offers fairground rides and games, entertainment shows, a range of restaurants, and the Agua Mágica water slide park (pictured above). You can even re-enact setting sail for the New World in a replica caravel ship. Admission is pricey (24.90€ adults, 20€ children; including water park 29.90€ adults, 24.90€ children), but booking online offers discounts and you can get significantly reduced rates for Friday afternoons. It's open daily from April, 11am–10pm (until 11pm in summer). Take bus C1, C2.

Also on the site of the 1992 Expo, Pabellón de la Navegación is a museum of navigation that has interactive displays in Spanish and English telling the story of the great Spanish explorers, along with detailed models of the historic ships in which the sailed. Included in the price of the ticket is a visit to the 65m-high (213 ft.) Torre Schindler, which has an observation point with terrific views of the city. Take the lift, after whose manufacturer the tower is named. The museum is located at Camino de los Descubrimientos, 2. Entry is  6€ adults, 4€ seniors and children aged 5–14, free for children under 5. It's open Tues–Sat 10.30am–1pm and 4.30–6.30pm. Take bus 05, C1, or C2.
