Skopelos is nearly as bustling as Skiathos in the high season, but isn't quite as "sophisticated." Its beaches are fewer and less impressive, but Skopelos town is pleasant enough, and the island offers some pleasant excursions. It was inevitable that handsomely rugged Skopelos would eventually be "discovered" but it has happened at a slower pace and a bit more wisely than on Skiathos. (No coincidence, perhaps, that it was used for most of the Greek scenes in the hit movie Mamma Mia!) Skopelos is also known for keeping alive rembetika music, the Greek version of American blues, that can be heard in tavernas late in the evening.
