Sudbury Attractions
Sudbury's attractions are scattered throughout the downtown in a few separates areas. Downtown/West End features a concentration of hotels, boutiques, government buildings such as City Hall and many restaurants. New Sudbury, the neighborhood to the east, has two major shopping centers -- New Sudbury Centre and Sudbury Supermall -- and warehouse outlets. The South End has more shopping and three major grocery stores.

Sudbury Nightlife
Most major events in Sudbury are ticketed through the 5,000-seat Sudbury Arena, 240 Elgin St. (tel. 800/277-1700 or 705/671-3000; www.greatersudbury.ca), located downtown. Recent headliners have included Def Leppard.
The Performing Arts
The Sudbury Symphony Orchestra (tel. 705/673-1280; www.sudburysymphony.com) perform a series of concerts from October through May that includes internationally-renowned guest artists, classical and contemporary works, and a concert of Christmas favorites. Entertaining audiences for over 30 years, the Sudbury Theatre Centre (tel. 705/674-8381; www.sudburytheatre.on.ca) this professional playhouse offers a variety of comedy, drama, musical live stage productions; the season runs October through May. Founded in 1971, Theatre du Nouvel Ontario (tel. 705/525-5606; www.franco.ca/tno) presents original productions by Franco-Ontarian and Québécois playwrights and cabaret performances in a black box theater setting, in French, from October through May. Sudbury has an emerging film culture, and one place to view independent and foreign features is Cinescreen, 45 Durham St. (tel. 705/688-1234; www.cinefest.com). Films are shown on a bimonthly basis and in September, it hosts the Sudbury International Film Festival.

At the very cool, martini-pouring Habanas, 93 Durham St., (tel.705/564-9111), Sudbury's only authentic cigar bar, jazz, calypso, reggae and Latin music is the main flavor, with live music on Saturday nights. Another favored hangout is Peddler's Pub and Eatery, 63 Cedar St. (tel. 705/699-1075), an Irish bar with Celtic music on weekend nights. Also in downtown, The Town House Tavern, 206 Elgin St. (tel. 705/674-6883;), is the preeminent alternative, indie and folk rock venue, with a long history; live local music dominates Sundays through Wednesdays. The 1500 Club, 1500 Regent St. (tel.705/5232-8900), draws a predominately younger crowd to this karaoke bar Mondays through Thursdays, with live rock and roll nearly every weekend.
