Planning a trip to Tarragona

There are trains from Barcelona-Sants station to Tarragona about every 15 minutes. Tarragona has two train stations: The one called Tarragona, in the city center, is mainly served by slower regional trains, while Camp de Tarragona, a modern station about 10km outside the city, has high-speed Avant, AVE, and Alvia services. Trains from Barcelona take from 32 minutes to 2 hours and cost 7€ to 25€. AVANT trains have the best combination of speed and value; 35 minutes for around 20€.

In Tarragona, you’ll find RENFE offices (tel/ 90-232-03-20) in the train stations, in the city center at Plaza Pedrera, s/n, and at Camp de Tarragona (Mas L’Hereuet, s/n).

There are also about 4 buses per day from Barcelona to Tarragona (trip time 1.5 hr.), but the bus is slower and less convenient than the train. Bus service is available on Alsa (tel. 90-242-22-42).

To drive, take the A-2 southwest from Barcelona to the A-7, and then take the N-340. It is a fast but costly toll road, with one-way tolls of 9.60€.

The main tourist office is at Calle Major, 39 (tel. 97-725-07-95). From July through September, it’s open Monday through Saturday 10am‒8pm and Sunday 10am‒2pm; the rest of the year it’s open Monday to Saturday 10am‒2pm and 3‒6pm, Sunday 10am‒2pm.
