When was the last time you sat in a pub with a view of crashing surf, an enormous sand dune, and an offshore monolith? Pelican Brewery offers some delicious and award-winning brews—Irish Handcuffs, Doryman’s Ale, and Kiwanda Cream Ale among them—and a fabulous Cape Kiwanda view to go with them. And food, too, the kind that goes well with beer and a day at the beach. The lightly breaded and salted fried calamari is a favorite way to start a meal here. I also like the blackened salmon salad, the Tsunami Stout Chili (made with pork and beef and topped with Tillamook cheese), the seafood quesadilla, and the wild mushroom pie. Pasta and gourmet pizzas are available, too. This is a very laid-back place that welcomes kids. You can sit outside in nice weather.
