Although the room rates below may appear high, keep in mind that they usually include round-trip transportation from San José (which amounts to approx. $100 per person), plus all meals, taxes, and usually some tours. When broken down into nightly room rates, most of the lodges are really charging only $60 to $150 for a double room. Note: Package rates listed are for the least expensive travel option, which is a bus and boat combination in and out. All lodges also offer packages with a plane flight, either one or both ways.
Several basic cabinas in the village of Tortuguero offer budget lodgings for $40 to $80 per person. Miss Junie’s Lodge (tel. 2709-8029) and Cabinas Miss Miriam (tel. 2709-8002) are the traditional favorites. The other choices are Hotel El Icaco (tel. 2709-8044) and Cabinas Tortuguero Natural (tel. 8508-9524).
