Accommodations are scarce and fill up quickly from April to September. Many islanders rent rooms when the hotels are fully booked, but if you count on that, you're taking a chance. It's far preferable to arrive with a reservation. If you don't have one, go to the Piazza Umberto and start asking around for a camera, or room. In winter, many places close down.
