Hotels in Vail
Like most of Colorado's ski resorts, Vail has an abundance of condominiums. Many are individually owned and available for rent when the owners aren't in town; you'll find that they have more individuality and homey touches than you'd often find in a hotel. Some of the better condominium developments are discussed below (along with other lodging choices), but there are scores more. Contact the Vail Valley Partnership, which can provide additional lodging information or make your reservations for you, as well as provide information on skiing and other activities.
As in most ski areas, rates are highest during peak ski season, particularly Christmas, and can sometimes be halved after the lifts close. During ski season, you'll find the lowest rates at the very beginning, from opening to about December 20. Unless otherwise noted, parking is free. Room taxes add almost 12% to lodging bills.
Skiers on a tight budget can probably save a few dollars by staying in the town of Eagle, just south of I-70 exit 147, about 18 miles west of Beaver Creek and 29 miles west of Vail. Here there is a Comfort Inn Vail Valley, 285 Market St. (tel. 970/328-7878), with rates of $99 to $199 double; and the Best Western Eagle Lodge & Suites, 200 Loren Lane (tel. 800/475-4824 or 970/328-6316), which charges rates of $130 double and $255 suite, with higher holiday rates.
