Visitor Information -- Varaždin’s Tourist Association (www.tourism-varazdin.hr; tel. 042/210-987) is at Ivana Padovca 3. The office is open Mon–Fri 8am–4pm and Sat 10am–1pm. The very helpful and friendly staff distribute maps and brochures, and can give suggestions about dining and accommodations in town. They also have information about the region, including Međimurje to the north.
Getting There -- Varaždin is about 1 hr.’s drive northeast from Zagreb along a well-marked highway. The town is also linked to the capital by frequent bus and train service.
Getting Around -- Varaždin’s central district is a pedestrian area, so you’ll have to park on the outskirts of Trg Ban Jelačića north of the sights and walk in. Stari Grad (castle) is a 5-minute walk from the center of town.
