Look into possible specials from Clearwater Lodges, P.O. Box 365, Stellenbosch 7599 (tel. 021/889-2034; www.clearwaterlodges.co.za). It is comprised of two totally separate camps. Of the two, Kudu Lodge is the better: Set in the middle of a large, open, short-grass savanna, it's surrounded by grazing antelope, zebra, and rhino. Each generously sized chalet has a deck from which you can enjoy the passing parade at the nearby watering hole. At R4,580 double, all-inclusive, the rate during winter (May-Oct) is an excellent value (summer: R8,780).
