Getting There

British Midland flights arrive at Leeds Bradford International Airport (tel. 01132/509696; www.leedsbradfordairport.co.uk), a 50-minute flight from London's Heathrow Airport. If you're driving from London, head north on the M1, cutting northeast below Leeds at the junction with the A64, heading east to York.

Visitor Information

The Tourist Information Centre at De Grey Rooms, Exhibition Square (tel. 01904/550099; www.york-tourism.co.uk), is open in winter Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm; summer hours are Monday to Saturday 9am to 6pm and Sunday 10am to 5pm. Another Tourist Information Centre at the railway station has the same hours.
