Getting There

By Plane -- The nearest regional airport is at Sturup, 37km (23 miles) in the direction of Malmö, and a taxi there costs 450SEK ($90/£45) each way. The closest international big-time airport is at Kastrup, outside of Copenhagen, via the Øresund Bridge.

By Train -- There are good rail connections between Malmö and Ystad. From Monday to Saturday, trains run roughly on the hour between Malmö and Ystad, taking 1 hour. On Sunday, there are only six daily trains from Malmö. In Ystad, both the bus station and the railway station lie immediately adjacent to one another, half a kilometer (about 1/3 mile) south of the town center. City bus nos. 1, 2, 3, and 4 all make runs from the railway/bus station to the town center, and a taxi will charge 80SEK ($16/£8). For more information, call tel. 0771/777-77-77.

By Bus -- There are three daily buses Monday to Saturday from Malmö to Ystad, taking 1 hour. On Sunday, there is only one bus.

By Car -- From Malmö, head east on Route 65. For more information, call tel. 0200/21-82-18.

Visitor Information

The tourist bureau, Ystads Turistbyrå, St. Knuts Torg, 271 80 Ystad (tel. 0411/57-76-81; www.ystad.se), is at the bus station in the same building as the art museum (Konstmuseum). It's open from June to August Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 6pm, Sunday 10am to 6pm; September to May Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
