Frommer's Smart Deal of the Week: Barcelona with Airfare from $595

Take advantage of package savings and explore one of Europe's most exciting cultural, shopping, and culinary destinations.

Que Suerte! (That means "how lucky!" for those who don't speak Spanish). TourCrafters (tel. 800/482-5995; www.tourcrafters.com) is offering a great deal to Barcelona in the winter, starting at $595 for four nights/five days, including airfare form New York, daily breakfast, hotel taxes and service charges, for travel January 3 through March 13 2008. The base price for the package includes a three-star hotel, the recently refurbished Hotel Covadonga, situated in the main business and tourist center, in Avinguda Diagonal. If desired, you can upgrade to a five-star affair such as the new Melia Barcelona, starting from $745 in January and close to the Gothic Quarter and the Picasso Museum, among other attractions. Departures from other cities are possible too, with add-ons from Miami from $15, from Chicago, $20, from Atlanta, $110, from Seattle, $145, and Los Angeles and San Francisco, $155. There is no booking deadline per se, but you should book sooner rather than later for best pricing and availability.

Although it's far from balmy, it's warmer than most of North America in Barcelona, with temperatures in the 50s during the package's valid travel time. There's much to see and do in terms of art, culture, shopping, dining and architecture in this sophisticated city -- don't miss Gaudi's Sagrada Familia Basilica -- and redevelopment in recent years has brought restaurants, swimming areas, and parks.

Some caveats with this package: The prices are based on double occupancy and do not include airport taxes of $100 or fuel surcharges of $210. The reservation must be paid within 72 hours of booking.
