This genteel hotel's showpiece is a gorgeous 19th-century villa overlooking the bay, with basic furnishings but frescoed ceilings (in most rooms) and fantastic views from the front rooms. But the 1970s main building is also fine, renovated from 1997-98 to add wicker units to rooms on the lower floors and 19th-century-style furnishings and Jacuzzi shower/bathtub combos to the nicer (and pricier) third-floor accommodations. All rooms enjoy small terraces with at least a lateral sea view. Sit in the frescoed bar at the Villa's porch above the private beach and watch the sun set over Portoferraio across the waters. The hotel requires a minimum stay of 3 days and half pension, and rates are highly variable depending on the season, the view, and whether you can control the air-conditioning in your own room or whether, as in the original villa, it's centralized and hence not all that cooling.
