If you're seeking a place more homelike and personal than a city chain, this oasis hits the spot. This stately hotel lies on 1.2 hectares (3 acres) of verdant parkland, near clear springs and streams, 5km (3 miles) west of Kalmar, and a 1-minute drive from the airport. Although there has been an inn on this site since 1616, the elegantly symmetrical building you see today dates from the 1870s, when it was constructed as a manor house in a style similar to the classical ruins of Pompeii. Inside, Dagmar and Agneta Herlin have decorated their hotel and home with a roster of worthy antiques and color schemes that are almost universally pink- or salmon-toned. Bedrooms are cozy, well maintained, and charming, each with a small bathroom.
