Frommer's Review
Housed in the former Convento de São Francisco, the Chiado museum was designed by the French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. It replaced the Museum of Contemporary Art. The permanent collection of post-1850 art and sculpture extends to 1950 and crosses the artistic bridge from Romanticism to Postnaturalism. Some excellent examples of modernism in Portugal are on display. The museum also houses frequently changing contemporary exhibitions devoted to art, sculpture, photography, and mixed media.
