Frommer's Review
For British breakfast at its best, try this place, which has been serving traders from the nearby Smithfield meat market since 1898. Breakfasts are gargantuan, especially if you order the "Full House" -- a plate with at least eight items, including sausage, bacon, kidneys, eggs, beans, black pudding, and fried bread, along with unlimited tea or coffee, toast, and jam. Add a Black Velvet (champagne with Guinness), or the more fashionable Bucks Fizz (orange juice and champagne, known in the U.S. as a mimosa). The staff serves an even bigger breakfast called "The Full Monty" including a Guinness. Of course, those with more delicate stomachs might settle for some smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. The Fox and Anchor is noted for its fine English ales, which are all available at breakfast. Butchers from the market, spotted with blood, still appear, as do nurses getting off their shifts, and clerks and City tycoons who've been making millions all night. For lunch and dinner the food is standard pub fare, including fish and chips, steak-and-kidney pie, and a choice of steaks, followed by such classic British desserts as sticky toffee pudding or chocolate fudge cake.
