Frommer's Review
At the edge of the Thames near Tower Bridge, the Butler's Wharf complex holds condos, rental apartments, offices, and an assortment of food and wine shops collectively known as the Gastrodome. Built in the mid-19th century as a warehouse, it's now another Terence Conran playland. From its windows, diners and shoppers enjoy sweeping views of some of the densest river traffic in Europe. Of the four restaurants housed here, this one is closest to Tower Bridge. It maintains its commitment to moderate prices. The Chop House was modeled after a large boathouse, with banquettes, lots of exposed wood, flowers, candles, and windows overlooking Tower Bridge and the Thames. Lunchtime crowds include workers from the city's financial district; evening crowds are made up of friends enjoying a leisurely meal.
Dishes are largely adaptations of British recipes such as fish and chips with mushy peas or steak-and-kidney-pudding with oysters, even roast pork loin with applesauce. The bar features several English wines, among other offerings, plus a half-dozen French clarets by the jug.
