Frommer's Review
Inaugurated in 2003, this restaurant, tearoom, art gallery, bar, and patisserie became an overnight sensation. Food, art, and music are artfully harmonized. In a converted 18th-century building in Mayfair, Mourad ("Momo") Mazouz, along with a team of chefs and designers, masterminded this fashionable creation. The British press hailed Sketch as a "camp wonderland."
You can come here to dine elegantly but also to bar-hop, as there are a number of venues that, to confuse matters, change their agendas as the day progresses. For example, one section is an art gallery by day and "gastro-brasserie" by night. Whimsical and informal, the Parlour is for light lunches and delectable teas. In the Lecture Room and Library, each dish represents different sensations. The Art Gallery becomes a restaurant and bar at night. The East Bar is a popular late-night rendezvous and The Glade is open for lunches and light snacks.
The menu showcases a cuisine that is both bold and imaginative -- and also delicious. For starters, you get not only fresh Tsarskaya oysters, but they come with lemon, shallots, vinegar, and warm rye bread pudding. The fresh pumpkin soup is always invigorating. Well-flavored, tender lamb is served with a beet-root cake, white cabbage, and dried fruits, and the roasted and caramelized baby tuna comes with steamed zucchini, red pepper, celery leaves, and toasted sesame seeds.
