Frommer's Review
For tradition and location, the Goring is our first choice in Westminster. Just behind Buckingham Palace, it lies within easy reach of the royal parks, Victoria Station, Westminster Abbey, and the Houses of Parliament. It also offers the finest personal service of all its nearby competitors.
Built in 1910 by O. R. Goring, this was the first hotel in the world to have central heating and a private bathroom in every room. Today's guest rooms still offer all the comforts, including luxurious refurbished bathrooms with extra-long tubs, red marble walls, dual pedestal basins, bidets, deluxe toiletries, and power showerheads. There is an ongoing refurbishment of the bedrooms, including frequent replacement of linens. The beds, in fact, are among the most comfortable in London. Queen Anne and Chippendale are usually the decor styles, and the maintenance level is of the highest order. The rooms overlooking the garden are best. The charm of a traditional English country hotel is conjured in the paneled drawing room, where fires crackle in the ornate fireplaces on nippy evenings.
Facilities:
Grand afternoon tea in the drawing room (a London highlight); classic restaurant; bar; free use of nearby health club; room service; babysitting; laundry service; same-day dry cleaning; nonsmoking rooms; rooms for those w/limited mobility
