Nightlife

As night approaches, most of the student population heads to the Old Town. Le Blue Note III, 3 rue des Michottes (tel. 03-83-30-31-18), has a room for rock performances, a piano bar, a lounge with a fireplace and comfy armchairs, and a rowdy beer hall. It's open Wednesday through Sunday. Entrance is free except on Friday and Saturday night, when there's a 10€ ($15) cover. Women enter free on those nights before 12:30am.

Nancy's most popular dance club is Les Caves du Roy, 9 place Stanislas (tel. 03-83-35-24-14), where a techno crowd flails around in a chrome-and-metallic space. It's open Tuesday to Thursday 11pm to 4am, Friday 11pm to 5am, Saturday midnight to 6:15am.

The hottest nightclub in the region is a converted warehouse in the suburb of Vandoeuvre, 4km (2 1/2 miles) south of the center of town. Le Circus, 42 rue Jean-Mermoz (tel. 03-83-57-53-85; www.circusmedia.fr; for many events you can print out a "pass" from their website that gives free or discounted access), sits near the town's wholesale food market (le Marché en Gros). It features fire-eaters, jugglers, and techno music. Expect up to 2,000 revelers on a Friday or Saturday night, when the cover is 11€ ($16) and includes the first drink; it's open from 11pm to 5am.
