Getting There

Pamplona is the air hub of the Navarre region. The city is served by four to six weekday Iberia flights from both Madrid and Barcelona; international connections can be made from either city. Arrivals are at Aeropuerto de Noaín (tel. 90-240-47-04), 6.5km (4 miles) from the city center and accessible only by taxi for about 11€ ($16).

Four RENFE trains a day arrive from Madrid (trip time: 3 1/2-4 hr.) and three from Barcelona (trip time: 4 hr.). Pamplona also has three daily train connections from San Sebastián to the north (trip time: 1 1/4 hr.) and four daily from Zaragoza to the south (trip time: 1 1/2 hr.). Buses connect Pamplona with several major Spanish cities: four per day from Barcelona (trip time: 5 1/2 hr.), eight per day from Zaragoza (trip time: 2 hr.), and seven per day from San Sebastián (trip time: 1 hr.). Instead of calling for information, you'll have to consult the bulletin board's list of destinations at the Estación de Autobuses at Calle Conde Olivetto (corner of Calle Yanguas and Miranda). Nearly 20 privately owned bus companies converge here, in a mass of confusion.

The A-15 Navarra national highway begins on the outskirts of Pamplona and runs south to join A-68, midway between Zaragoza and Logroño. N-240 connects San Sebastián with Pamplona.

The tourist office, at Calle Eslava 1 (tel. 84-842-04-20; www.navarra.es), is open Monday to Friday 10am to 7pm, Saturday 10am to 2pm and 4 to 7pm, and Sunday 10am to 2pm.
