Active PursuitsBicycling & Motor-Scootering -- One of the town's largest renters of bicycles and motor scooters is Mas Location (also known as Jean-Louis Mas, S.A.R.L.), 5 rue Josef-Quaranta (tel. 04-94-97-00-60), which operates between Easter and mid-October from premises very close to the place des Lices. Depending on the vehicle you rent, you'll be required to leave between 150€ and 1,200€ ($195-$1,560) as a deposit (cash, checks, and credit card deposits are accepted), and then pay a rental charge of between 10€ and 12€ ($13-$16) for pedal bikes (a wide range of models are available), and between 20€ and 50€ ($26-$65) per day for rental of a motor scooter, depending on the model you select. Others, depending on their size, require a minimum age of either 14 (with the consent of parents or guardians) or 18. Boating -- The highly recommended Suncap Company, 15 quai de Suffren (tel. 04-94-97-11-23; www.suncap.fr), rents boats 5.5 to 12m (18-39 ft.) long. Larger ones come with a captain at the helm. Sprawling over a rocky, vertiginous landscape that requires a golf cart and a lot of exertion is the Don Harradine-designed Golf de Ste-Maxime-Plaza, route du Débarquement, Ste-Maxime (tel. 04-94-55-02-02). It welcomes nonguests; phone to reserve tee times. Greens fees at both golf courses range from 78€ to 85€ ($101-$111) for 18 holes per person, and 45€ to 90€ ($59-$117) for 9 holes, year-round. Scuba Diving -- A team of dive enthusiasts will show you the azure-colored depths off the coast of St-Tropez from the Octopussy I and II. Both are aluminum-sided, yellow-painted dive boats. They're based year-round in St-Tropez's Nouveau Port. For reservations and information, contact Les Octopussys, quartier de Bertaud, Gassin, 83900 St-Tropez (tel. 04-94-56-53-10; fax 04-94-56-46-59). For a look at the boats, head down to the Nouveau Port, where they usually tie up when not out to sea. Tennis -- Anyone who phones in advance can use the eight courts (artificial grass or "Quick," a form of concrete) at the Tennis-Club de St-Tropez, route des Plages, St-Claude (tel. 04-94-97-15-52), less than a kilometer (about 1/2 mile) from the resort's center. Open year-round, the courts rent for 20€ ($26) per hour for green set, 25€ ($33) per hour for clay set, from 8am to 9pm.
