The hotels and B&Bs listed here are just the tip of the more than 11,000 hotel rooms in Virginia Beach. Even with that many places to stay, you should reserve as far in advance as possible for the busy summer season, from mid-June through Labor Day, and especially on weekends when room rates are at their highest. Late spring and early fall are good times to visit; both have warm weather and lower rates. Least expensive prices are in the cold winter months, when few come here.
Most of the major chains have hotels along the oceanfront. One of the better values for what you get is the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, Atlantic Avenue at 19th Street (tel. 800/228-2800 or 757/422-4885; www.fairfieldinnoceanfront.com), which opened its doors in 2004. It has an indoor pool, fitness room, whirlpool, business center, and coin-operated laundry. The 80 rooms and 24 suites all come with wireless Internet access and balconies overlooking the sea. Free phone calls and breakfast is included in the rates.
If you're on a tight budget, there are two EconoLodges on the oceanfront, at 21st Street (tel. 800/999-3360 or 757/428-2403) and 28th Street (tel. 800/228-3970 or 757/428-3970).
Finding the Best Room
With so many hotels offering so many rooms, choosing the right one can be a daunting task. The Virginia Beach visitor information center maintains a reservations service (tel. 800/822-3224) that will help you find accommodations in any price range. The center's annual "Vacation Guide" lists all the local hotels and their current rates. It also distributes an annual accommodations directory published by the Virginia Beach Hotel/Motel Association (www.va-beach-hotels.com). The association's website has brochures for many of the hotels, most of which give their current room rates.
