Frommer's Review
This 11-story oceanfront hotel was one of the first Courtyards designed as much as a resort as for business travelers. Making this a good family choice is the oceanfront's largest outdoor pool, with waterfalls, bridges, a lifeguard on duty, and its own bar. Here the beach substitutes for an actual courtyard, and big window walls look out to the boardwalk from the plush lobby and bright, casual dining room, which provides good hotel fare for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (you can dine outside in fine weather). Marriott's standard furniture prevails in the spacious guest quarters, all of which have balconies overlooking the ocean. Ten units have whirlpool tubs. The eight huge suites have bedrooms and living rooms, which come equipped with wet bars, microwave ovens, and refrigerators. A small indoor pool and a fitness room look out to the beach.
Its slightly older sister, the Courtyard by Marriott Oceanfront South, 2501 Atlantic Ave., at 25th Street (tel. 800/321-2211 or 757/491-6222; www.courtyardoceanfront.com), lacks an outdoor pool, but, otherwise, is identical.
